Conference Theme & Purpose

The Spirit Behind the Sakura Nursing Forum

In Japan, the Sakura-the cherry blossom-holds profound meaning. It blooms with breathtaking beauty, yet its petals fall within days, reminding us that excellence is both precious and fleeting. The samurai lived by this principle: discipline, precision, and the relentless pursuit of mastery, knowing that each moment of service is an honor.

This is the spirit of nursing.

The Sakura Nursing Forum 2027 was born from this philosophy-to create a gathering where nursing professionals from across the world come together in the pursuit of perfection in care, just as the sakura blooms perfectly in its season. Hosted in Tokyo, the heart of the Land of the Rising Sun, this Forum responds to the evolving needs of global healthcare systems facing demographic shifts, technological transformation, and the timeless call for compassionate, evidence-based practice.

Our Purpose

The Sakura Nursing Forum 2027 exists to:

Honor Rigorous Scholarship
Provide a platform for peer-reviewed research that advances the science and art of nursing with the precision and dedication worthy of our profession.

Bridge Education, Practice, and Policy
Foster meaningful dialogue among educators, clinicians, and policymakers—recognizing that excellence in nursing requires harmony across all domains.

Nurture Professional Growth at Every Stage
Support nurses and researchers throughout their careers, from emerging scholars to distinguished leaders, with the understanding that mastery is a lifelong journey.

Strengthen Global Collaboration
Unite professionals across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, particularly honoring our colleagues from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, to exchange knowledge, build partnerships, and advance our shared mission.

Why “Sakura”?

The sakura is more than a flower—it is a philosophy.

In Japanese culture, the cherry blossom represents:

  • Renewal: Each spring, the sakura blooms anew, just as nurses renew their commitment to care
  • Perfection in Timing: The blossoms appear at precisely the right moment—a reminder that in nursing, timing can save lives
  • Beauty in Service: Though each petal is fragile, together they create something magnificent—like the collective power of the nursing profession
  • Discipline and Grace: The sakura embodies mono no aware—the awareness of impermanence that inspires us to serve with wholehearted dedication

This Forum carries forward these values, combining the discipline of the samurai with the compassion of the caregiver, the wisdom of tradition with the innovation of the future.

Our Commitment

Through the Sakura Nursing Forum 2027, we honor the excellence of global nursing practice, education, and innovation. We welcome you with omotenashi—the Japanese spirit of wholehearted hospitality—and commit to creating an environment where every voice is respected, every contribution valued, and every participant leaves enriched.

Together, we will advance the noble profession of nursing, one thoughtful exchange at a time, in the city where the sakura blooms and excellence is not just a goal—but a way of life.

Why Gather Under the Sakura?

Just as the sakura tree stands strong through seasons, supported by deep roots and reaching branches, the Sakura Nursing Forum 2027 rests upon five pillars—each essential to advancing our shared mission of excellence in global nursing.

I. Honoring Excellence in Nursing Practice

精進 (Shōjin) — Continuous Refinement

Excellence is not a destination—it is a discipline practiced daily. This Forum showcases the finest advancements in clinical care, patient safety, and innovative treatment strategies, recognizing that each improvement, no matter how small, honors the lives entrusted to our care.

Like the samurai’s commitment to mastery, we pursue perfection in practice—knowing that precision, timing, and unwavering dedication can mean the difference between life and death.
II. Advancing Nursing Education with Wisdom and Innovation

学び (Manabi) — The Way of Learning

In the Japanese tradition, learning is a lifelong journey—manabi—where ancient wisdom meets modern innovation. Here, we explore transformative approaches to curriculum design, digital learning, simulation technology, and continuing professional development.

We honor both the teacher and the student, recognizing that knowledge shared with respect and humility elevates the entire profession.

III. Cultivating Leadership, Policy, and Harmonious Systems

和 (Wa) — Harmony in Purpose

Strong healthcare systems require more than individual excellence—they demand wa, the harmony that comes when leaders, practitioners, and policymakers work in unified purpose. This Forum fosters dialogue on nursing leadership, healthcare management, and policy development that serves the collective good.

Like the interlocking branches of a cherry tree, effective leadership creates strength through connection.

IV. Building Bridges Across Borders and Cultures

絆 (Kizuna) — Bonds That Unite

Kizuna—the deep bonds formed through shared purpose—is at the heart of this Forum. We welcome distinguished colleagues from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and beyond to forge meaningful collaborations, exchange knowledge, and build lasting professional relationships.

In the spirit of omotenashi, we create a space where every voice is heard, every contribution valued, and every connection honored.

V. Embracing Innovation with Precision and Purpose

革新 (Kakushin) — Purposeful Innovation

Japan has long balanced reverence for tradition with bold innovation. This Forum examines how digital health, artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and emerging technologies can enhance—not replace—the human touch at the heart of nursing.

We explore innovation not for its own sake, but with the precision and thoughtfulness that ensure technology serves humanity with dignity and care.

Together, We Bloom

These five pillars support our shared vision: a global nursing community where excellence is pursued with discipline, knowledge is shared with generosity, and care is delivered with the precision and compassion worthy of our noble profession.

This is why we gather under the sakura—to grow, to learn, to serve, and to bloom together.

Domains of Excellence

Six Pathways to Advancing Global Nursing

The Sakura Nursing Forum 2027 brings together the world’s nursing community to explore six interconnected domains—each vital to the evolution of our profession. Like the petals of the sakura, each area is distinct yet part of a unified whole, creating beauty and strength through harmony.
